THE ART OF CONTACT

Summons & Evocation

The veil is terrifyingly thin. To call an entity across it requires absolute authority, iron-clad spiritual boundaries, and a mind cleansed of ego. There are no second chances in this discipline.

Invocation vs. Evocation

This is the most critical distinction in all of occult practice. Confuse these two and the consequences can be devastating.

Invocation is calling a divine or trusted force into yourself — your aura, your consciousness. You invoke the Holy Spirit, your ancestors, the attributes of Venus, or the Archangel Michael. These are entities you wish to merge with temporarily to channel their qualities through your flesh. The result is communion, guidance, empowerment.

Evocation is calling an entity out into physical manifestation before you, while you remain strictly separated from it. You evoke Goetic spirits, tricksters, djinn, or unpredictable planetary intelligences into a contained Triangle of Art, while you remain safely within a sealed, consecrated circle. You never, ever invoke an entity of chaos.

Absolute Rule: Invocation = trusted entities only (ancestors, angels, deities). Evocation = all others (demons, tricksters, unknown spirits). Reversing this is how possession begins. This is not a metaphor.

Safe Petitions: The Archangelic Watchtowers

Before attempting to contact specific historical entities, a practitioner must first master the art of calling the Elemental Watchtowers. These are the four Archangels assigned to guard the cardinal directions — they function as the security infrastructure of all ritual space.

  • East — Raphael (Air): Face the rising sun. Trace the invoking pentagram of Air in brilliant yellow light. Petition for intellect, clear communication, healing, and travel protection.
  • South — Michael (Fire): Face the equator. Trace the invoking pentagram of Fire in blazing red. Petition for absolute protection, courage, and the severance of fear. Michael is the warrior archangel — call him when under spiritual attack.
  • West — Gabriel (Water): Face the setting sun. Trace the invoking pentagram of Water in deep blue. Petition for emotional intuition, dream clarity, fertility, and messages from the divine.
  • North — Uriel (Earth): Face the pole. Trace the invoking pentagram of Earth in vibrant green. Petition for wealth, stability, property protection, and deep unshakeable grounding.

Critical: If you open the quarters to begin a ritual, you are spiritually obligated to formally close them and dismiss the forces when finished. State: "Guardians of the [Direction], I thank you for your protection. Go in peace." Failure to dismiss creates permanent open portals in your living space.

Ancestral Communion — The Safest Contact

Your ancestors have a vested interest in your survival and success — they are your blood, your lineage. Invoking them is the safest, most natural form of spirit contact available. Many practitioners skip this in favor of flashy Goetic evocation and pay for it severely.

Setting Up an Ancestor Altar: A separate surface (never your main working altar). Place photographs of deceased family members, a glass of cool water (refreshed weekly), a white candle, and offerings of their favorite foods or drink. Sit before it weekly, light the candle, and speak to them as if they were in the room. Ask for guidance. Listen.

Important: Do NOT place ancestors who were actively harmful in life (abusers, addicts who harmed the family) on the altar. Death does not automatically purify a spirit. Only honor ancestors who were elevated, kind, or protective in life. Unknown ancestors can be safely honored as a collective — "I call upon my wise and elevated ancestors who wish me well."

Entity Classification System

Not all non-physical beings operate at the same frequency. Understanding the hierarchy prevents catastrophic errors in contact protocol selection.

Benevolent — Invoke

Archangels & Planetary Angels

Immense, structured intelligences bound to cosmic law. Raphael (healing), Michael (protection), Gabriel (intuition), Uriel (stability). Standard invocation. Respond to divine names of God.

Benevolent — Invoke
Ancestors & Elevated Dead

Blood-bound spirits with personal attachment to the practitioner. Invocation through altar devotion, food offerings, and direct conversational petition. Safest contact class.

Neutral — Evoke with Caution
Elemental Spirits

Salamanders (fire), Undines (water), Sylphs (air), Gnomes (earth). Operate without human morality. Can be useful but unpredictable. Require firm boundaries and offering exchanges.

Dangerous — Evoke Only
Goetic Spirits (The 72)

Catalogued in the Lesser Key of Solomon. Immense engines of change that operate entirely without human ethics. Require sealed circle, Triangle of Art, Pentagram of Solomon, and divine authority. Never invoke.
