Undeath Magic is the most enigmatic and misunderstood branch of Necromancy. It does not deal with the living (that is Life Magic) nor with the fully departed (that is Death Magic). Undeath Magic operates in the space between — the threshold where consciousness persists without a body.
This is the realm of residual hauntings, soul fragments, ancestral echoes, and energies that were never fully released. It is the art of working with that which should have moved on but hasn't — not because the dead are stubborn, but because something holds them: unfinished business, unprocessed grief, broken oaths, or simply the magnetic pull of a place they loved.
Undeath Magic is not about creating undead. It is about understanding the conditions that prevent full transition — and either helping that transition complete, or learning from the consciousness that chooses to remain.
ENTITIES OF THE THRESHOLD
Emotional imprints left in places. Not conscious — like a recording playing on loop. The "cold spots" and recurring sounds of classic hauntings.
Pieces of consciousness left behind after death, often attached to objects, places, or living people. Can be reunited with the departed through ritual.
Beings that exist natively in the in-between. Not human, not spirit — something older. They are the gatekeepers of transitions.
Repeating patterns passed through bloodlines — trauma, gifts, unresolved karma. Not ghosts, but energetic signatures that persist across generations.
The emotional weight left by intense experiences — battles, births, deaths, rituals. Places where the veil is permanently thin.
Consciousness attached to a physical object. Heirloom jewelry, old houses, battlefield artifacts. The object becomes a vessel.
THE PRACTICES
Removing residual energy from spaces, objects, and people. Unlike simple space purification, psychic cleansing in Undeath Magic involves identifying the source of the residual energy, understanding why it persists, and addressing the root cause — not just sweeping it away.
When a person dies with unresolved attachments, pieces of their consciousness can remain lodged in the living world. Soul Fragment Retrieval is the practice of finding these fragments and helping them complete their journey — reuniting them with the departed consciousness.
The practice of consciously entering the liminal space between life and death — not physically, but in expanded awareness. This is done through deep meditation, sensory deprivation, or ritualized altered states. The practitioner visits the in-between to gather information, deliver messages, or escort stuck energies forward.
Identifying inherited trauma patterns — addiction, abandonment, violence, poverty — that repeat across generations and performing rituals to break the cycle. This is not psychology. This is energetic surgery on the ancestral line itself. You are not just healing yourself. You are healing backward and forward through time.
The most compassionate practice in Undeath Magic. When a consciousness is stuck — confused, afraid, or attached — the practitioner creates conditions that help it release. This involves creating a "doorway" of light, speaking directly to the stuck entity, and guiding it through the transition with patience and love.
Undeath Magic carries unique ethical weight. You are working with consciousness that is vulnerable — caught between states, often confused, often afraid. The practitioner must approach with the gentleness of a hospice worker, not the ambition of a summoner.
Never bind a stuck spirit to an object. This is the dark-art version of Undeath Magic — trapping consciousness in vessels for personal use. It creates suffering for the spirit and karmic debt for the practitioner.
Always offer the option to leave. In every interaction with a threshold entity, the practitioner must present the doorway forward. Some will choose to stay — and that must be respected. But the option must always be given.
The in-between is not your realm to control. It is your realm to honor.
