Planetary Botany

Plants are not dead ingredients thrown into a cauldron. They are conscious extensions of the earth, governed by celestial forces.

Before you ever crush a leaf in a mortar, you must understand sympathetic magic. The ancient doctrine of signatures states that a plant's physical shape, scent, and growing condition dictate its metaphysical power. A plant that thrives in full, aggressive sunlight carries solar energy (healing, power, domination). A plant that grows only in the shade of death and decay carries Saturnian energy (binding, hexing, necromancy).

The Three Pillars of Herbal Alchemy

  1. Gathering (The Moon): A plant gathered under a waning moon will naturally pull energy inward — useful for banishing and binding. The same plant gathered under a waxing moon will push outward — useful for drawing love or manifesting wealth. A plant gathered at midnight during a full moon holds maximum undifferentiated power.
  2. Awakening (The Breath): Dried store-bought herbs are dormant. Their spirits are sleeping. To use them in spellwork, you must crush them slightly between your fingers while blowing your breath (your life force, your Spirit) directly into them. This jolts the internal spirit of the plant awake.
  3. The Carrier (The Potion): To deploy an herb's energy, you extract it into a stable carrier medium. Water (teas, washes) for emotional healing and cleansing. Alcohol (tinctures, Florida Water) for fast-acting offensive magic. Oil (anointing, dressing) for sustained financial or spiritual drawing that works over weeks.

Safety Rule: Never ingest an herb based solely on magical properties. Many powerful spell herbs (Belladonna, Foxglove, Wormwood) are lethally toxic if consumed. Always research the medical safety profile before any internal use. When in doubt, use externally only.

The Six Essential Herbs

You do not need a rare apothecary. These six herbs — available in any grocery store or garden — form the complete foundation of practical herbalism.

Practical Application

Your First Floor Wash

A floor wash is the single most effective method for clearing a home of accumulated spiritual debris.

A floor wash is not metaphorical. You are literally washing your floors, walls, and door frames with an herbal infusion that carries a specific intention into the physical surfaces of your home. The herbs dissolve into the water, the water absorbs into the wood and tile, and the intention saturates the structure.

🌿 Basic Protection Floor Wash

Method: Steep the rosemary in the hot water for 15 minutes. Strain. Add remaining ingredients. Beginning at the back of the house, mop every room while moving toward the front door. Dispose of the remaining water at a crossroads or pour it off your front porch.
